On Sunday the 25th February, two of our consultants braved the elements and took part in the Brighton Half Marathon on behalf the YMCA DownsLink Charity.
The charitable organisation provides vital accommodation and support for vulnerable young people in Sussex and Surrey. Their mission is to help children and young people have a fair chance to be who they want to be, and they do this by providing a safe home, increasing life skills and self-confidence, and improving emotional wellbeing and mental health.
Carpenter Farraday is committed to developing strong relationships within the communities where we live and work and we have partnered with the YMCA DownsLink Group since 2022. It was with great delight and honour that we were able to, once again, take part in an event to contribute to the incredible work they do.
The main race began after the youth and wheelchair races and was started by rugby legend Gareth Thomas CBE. The race began on the seafront, heading east towards neighbouring Rottingdean, following some of Brighton’s famous landmarks, past the Royal Pavilion, the Palace Pier and i360 and ended back on the seafront drive.
Over 8,000 finished the race, a new record for the event, and raised over £1 million for a wide range of charities large and small.
Both our runners faced tough winds and some seasonal drizzle, but finished in great times and even greater spirits, cheered on by the rest of the Carpenter Farraday and YMCA teams.
We raised almost £1000 for the charity which will help fund some of the amazing projects and current campaigns they are running. We are so proud to work with the YMCA DownsLink Group and look forward to maintaining and developing our partnership with them.
