We were first introduced to Grief Encounter in 2023 and were blown away by the incredible work they do providing professional and specialist bereavement services to children and young people who suffer the trauma of losing someone close to them at a young age. Through the services they offer, Grief Encounter are able to give individuals and their families the best possible care to find hope and healing.
When we were asked to take part in the epic cycle from Clapham Common to Brighton Beach to celebrate Grief Encounter’s 20th anniversary, our representatives were ready for the challenge!
Beginning at 8 in the morning on Father’s Day, our team joined over 8000 cyclists at the start line. The weather looked ominous as clouds loomed threateningly over them, but there was a great energy in the crowd and the further south they travelled, the sun shone stronger, and the team were encouraged all the way, soaking up the electric atmosphere.
The route was hillier than expected, with a few hydration stops along the way. With road closures for the entire event, it proved to be a unique and surreal experience. A particular highlight was tackling the impressive Ditchling Beacon without stopping and seeing the sea and Brighton pier in the distance at the top of the hill signalling the final few miles.
As they rode through the finish line, they were cheered on by family and friends and the charity organisers had arranged for sea spa and sauna – the perfect end to the 4-hour challenge!
We raised over £2000 and contributed to the amazing £25,000 for the charity in total, all of which goes towards funding projects to give every child and young person access to the best possible support following the death of someone close.
Carpenter Farraday is honoured to work in partnership with such a remarkable charitable organisation, and we are already looking forward to our next fundraising event with Grief Encounter.
